The d i s s i p a t i o n o f mechanical energy i n g l a s s e s of t h e " f a s t ion conductor" type (AgI-AgP03, AgI-Ap,B02 and AgC1-CsI) has been s t u d i e d us ing a Rheovibron mechanical ana lyze r i n t h e temperature range -190 t o 200°C. I n most cases a s i n g l e l o s s peak a t low temperature is found f o r fixed-frequency scans . The peak temperature almost co inc ides wi th t h a t f o r e l e c t r i c a l conduc t iv i ty rel a x a t i o n b u t is much broader . The l o s s magnitude does not c o r r e l a t e wi th peak temperature bu t depends on g l a s s cons t i tu t ion . Idhere l o s s is smal l , t h e re laxat i o n time fol lows Arrhenius Law wi th r0 = l/2irf0,where f, i s found from f a r IR s p e c t r a . For l a r g e l o s s g la s ses , important non-Arrhenius behavior is found.

Ab initio simulation of solid electrolyte materials in liquid and glassy phases

We use plane-wave density functional methods to model Ge-Se-Ag-Cu liquids and glasses. The models are analyzed for structural and electronic properties and transition metal ion dynamics. Electronic properties are analyzed with the electronic density of states and projected density of states. The optical gap increases with increasing Ag content and decreases with increasing Cu content. We carry ...

Trends in Effective Diffusion Coefficients for Ion-Exchange Strengthening of Soda-Lime-Silicate Glasses

Monovalent cations enable efficient ion-exchange processes due to their high mobility in silicate glasses. Numerous properties can be modified in this way, e.g., mechanical, optical, electrical, or chemical performance. In particular, alkali cation exchange has received significant attention, primarily with respect to introducing compressive stress into the surface region of a glass, which incr...

Destructive Clustering of Metal Nanoparticles in Chalcogenide and Oxide Glassy Matrices

The energetic χ-criterion is developed to parameterize difference in the origin of high-order optical non-linearity associated with metallic atoms (Cu, Ag, Au) embedded destructively in oxide- and chalcogenide glasses. Within this approach, it is unambiguously proved that covalent-bonded networks of soft semiconductor chalcogenides exemplified by binary As(Ge)-S(Se) glasses differ essentially f...

Conductive and transparent multilayer films for low-temperature TiO2/Ag/SiO2 electrodes by E-beam evaporation with IAD

Conductive and transparent multilayer thin films consisting of three alternating layers (TiO2/Ag/SiO2, TAS) have been fabricated for applications as transparent conducting oxides. Metal oxide and metal layers were prepared by electron-beam evaporation with ion-assisted deposition, and the optical and electrical properties of the resulting films as well as their energy bounding characteristics a...

Metal ion binding by pyridylethyl-containing polymers: experimental and theoretical study.

Binding of Cu(2+), Ni(2+) and Ag(+) ions to polyallylamine (PAA), polyethylenimine (PEI), poly(N-2-(2-pyridyl)ethylallylamine) (PEPAA), poly(N-2-(2-pyridyl)ethylethylenimine) (PEPEI), and N-2-(2-pyridyl)ethylchitosan (PEC) has been investigated using batch sorption experiments, spectrophotometric titration, ESR, and XPS to elucidate how the structure of polymer precursors affects the ion bindin...
